I have recenly installed Windows 7 but cannot detect my Sound card Creative sound blaster live 5.1. My processor is intel dual core and mother board is Asus P5QPL- AM series.
I installed the hardware, disabled /uninstalled the integral sound chipset of the mother board (RealTek audio) and rebooted the pc and then installed the Creative Sound blaster live 5.1 software ( from the CD provided by the vendor) but still it doesnt detect the sound card. The sound does come but the effects or the sound enhancement features which i previously used to enjoy with the Windows XP Professional are no more there. I ran the Diagnositc Tools of the Creative sound blaster software package and it failed the very first step 'hardware detection' of the software package.

That leaves the original SB Live series of cards. There is not now and never will be any support for these cards from Creative, and I really wouldn't expect them too considering most of these cards are from the Windows 95/98 era.
For anyone with one of these cards the only option you really have (applies to Vista as well) is yet another DanielK modified driver set, Filefront mirror - I just want to let the world know that this super old Sound Card from Creative called SB Live! Ct4780 is working just fine after downloading and installing the driver from the mirror above.I upgraded this old work computer from XP to Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit).I ran the driver as administrator (always run install scripts as administrator.always ok) and everything works just fine no compatibility box checking necessary was necessary. Monkeying with settings was necessary.ok so hopefully that terminology will help this thread come up easier when the next guy searches for it because I had a bear of a time finding this driver. Again your old SB Live! Card will work in WINDOWS 7 with this driver MODEL: CT4780.4000-5000 series.
